Adidas pissed Warsaw off.
Yikes! The Adisucks Facebook Page has caused some commotion in Poland recently, a page currently sitting at over 25k fans who are not too happy about Adidas Poland’s plans to use a free graffiti wall in Warsaw to showcase graffiti ads. Adidas has already begun the process by covering half of the wall with black paint. A process that’s been filmed by graffiti fans. (Video here.)
A comment that appeared on the Adidas facebook page read:
“The biggest Polish graffiti in the gallery district of Warsaw Służewiec is being destroyed by Adidas Poland. (…) By your great ad, one of the most important elements of the Polish street art disappears. Is this how you show your support for the street culture?”
There is also a facebook event “not to paint over the wall służewieckiej” had more than two thousand people signed up within hours.
So now what? Adidas can’t continue painting the wall black and I’d be surprised if they stick to their guns and paint their ad wall as planned. Touchy situation, you’ve got to take a lot into consideration when you’re toying with counter culture. There will always be haters, sometimes rightfully so.
